A swathe of planting has taken place just east of Braintree town centre, in the Braintree Central and Beckers Green ward, following a project designed and organised by local community groups - Braintree East - Pride in our Patch and Manor Community - assisted by Cllr Andrew Hensman, member for the ward.
Shrubs and trees were bought with money from Essex County Council as part of the division Locality Fund, provided by Cllr Tom Cunningham, division member for Braintree Town. Preparation and planting was then undertaken by Braintree District Council during March 2023, the site was marked out on 13th, digging undertaken on 16th, planting began on 16th, with the site being completed with a covering of bark on 28th March.
As well as preventing parking on the green space, the trees and shrubs will also work towards providing cleaner air for local residents, as well as a lovely place to walk.
This project shows partnership working at it's best, including both local authorities, local community group members, and local ward members being involved from the start.
